Selling your first product can be scary and overwhelming. I put off selling products for a few years because I just didn't know where to start. Then of course the worry sunk in - is my product even good enough? But I promise you that it gets easier once you get that first product up for sale. Whether you are creating your own product or using ready to sell products like PLR, it feels like a big step. I get you, but you can do it!
In this post, we'll outline some tips for selecting and preparing your file and making sure it's ready for customers.
Before you can put your first product up for sale, you have to get it download ready. Chances are, you already have a few products that are almost ready to publish. If you don’t, find something quick and easy to put together.
For example, you could turn ten to twenty of your most helpful blog posts on a topic into an ebook, or you can start with a PLR eBook that you just need to edit and tweak to work for your market and target audience.
You can also use a PLR planner template and sell an easy planner. My first product was a planner from a PLR template. In the beginning I loved ready to sell products. And you know what? I still find myself buying PLR templates, even tho I too make and sell them.
Over the course of five posts, we’ll get the product up and selling. Today, you’re going to pick a product and get it ready to be downloaded. The first part of this process is of course to pick the product you want to get up and selling first. Here are a few things you should consider when picking this product.
Think about what’s easy to finish. What is almost ready? What excites you the most? There are a few new things to learn when it comes to actually getting that first product up for sale. You want to spend your time and energy on learning these new tasks and getting them done, not on writing something new from scratch.
This is also why I suggest that you stick with a downloadable PDF for this first product. It’s one of the easiest products to put together and get ready for download. Look for something you can finish up quickly. You want to be able to move on to the next set of tasks within a day or two. Start with something that’s almost done and keep it short. You can get it download ready by the end of the day.
When you first start out, you may not know how or what to design. Don't cause yourself overwhelm, we are listing some pretty easy things for you to get ready in a day.
Anything that can take an hour or 2 to complete is perfect for your first product. Once you get into a groove you can start to sell more expensive products that take you longer to create.
I have news for you. In the next post we start to work on copywriting, which in essence means getting ready to sell the info product. Make it easy on yourself and increase your chances of success by choosing a product that you know your audience wants.
Think about the kinds of questions you receive frequently. Consider anything they have asked for specifically. Chances are, this is something you’re already working on. Pick up that product and get ready to finish it up.
If you are new to online business and do not have an audience, think about what you are passionate and/or knowledgeable about. Do a little research into what others are selling and see how you can make it better or unique.
If you are in the weight loss, a fitness planner would be great. Do you know a lot about parties? How about some invitations or party planners. It is easier to sell a product when your customers really want it.
One of my favorites for repeat sales - make it easy for a number 2! If you can publish a number 2, it makes for a quick new product that people already want. They bought the first one from you and are more likely to buy the second. Plus it can also help you get in the habit of publishing info products regularly.
Think about what will your customers need after they buy this first product? Did they buy invitations for a birthday party? Maybe they will want a birthday party planner for example.
If they buy a yearly planner for this year and love it, maybe they will love next year's too. Or maybe you have homeschool worksheets and you create the next grade level worksheets.
There are many options!
Got that product picked out? Great. Take a close look at it and make sure it’s ready for publication. Give it a final edit and proofread. For the purpose of this series of blog posts, I’m going to assume that you’re creating an eBook or short report that can be downloaded as a PDF.
Once you’re happy with the final text document, convert it into a pdf file. I always print it first to make sure that it prints good and the layout works.
You now have something that’s ready to sell and deliver to your customers. Congratulate yourself on a job well done, now it is time to get ready to post it for sale!

Conclusion
Creating your first product for sale can be scary and it's ok to feel this way. But don't let it stop you, put the fear behind and get to creating! Make sure your product is easy for you to create and something that people will want. If the first product doesn't go so well (mine was a bit of a hot mess), it's ok. Pick your head up and create another better then the last.
